Ewe Velvet Rose Cape Dress

Red velvet roses and golden-green leaves on sheer black chiffon.

The roses are velvet devoré. The velvet is burnt away around each flower, so the roses sit raised and soft on the clear chiffon. Helen cut and sewed every one by hand in Lagos, so no two are exactly the same. The cape falls from the shoulders, with a high neck.

At about 43", it's shorter than our other capes. If you're petite, it falls like a dress without swamping you. Wear it with the wine-coloured slip to a wedding, a Christmas cocktail party or the theatre. Or leave the slip off and wear it as a blouse over jeans.

Before You Order

What size should I go for?

It's one size. The cape is loose, so the fit comes from the slip underneath.

What if the slip doesn't fit me?

Wear the cape over your own slip. A simple one from somewhere like Marks & Spencer works well.

How long is it?

About 43" from the shoulder, shorter than our other capes, which are about 50". On shorter women it falls like a dress. On taller women it sits closer to the knee. Each cape is cut by hand, so yours may be a few centimetres longer or shorter.

Is it good if I'm petite?

Yes. It's the shortest of our capes, so it won't swamp you or drag on the floor.

Can I wear it as a top?

Yes. Leave the slip off and wear it over jeans and a simple top, like a blouse.

Is it see-through?

Yes, the chiffon is sheer. Wear the slip underneath to cover you, or wear it over jeans and a top.

Is it delicate?

The chiffon is fine and can catch on rings, bracelets and bag chains. Put your jewellery on after the cape. Full care is in the What It's Made Of tab.

What shoes should I wear with it?

Heels for a party or a wedding. With jeans, flat shoes or boots work too.

Measurements

• Cape length: about 43"

Slip chest and hips are measured all the way round. Each cape is cut by hand, so its length can vary by a few centimetres.

Composition

Cape: velvet devoré in mixed fibres, on polyester chiffon. Slip: stretch polyester.

This is deadstock fabric, so we can't be sure of the full fibre mix of the velvet.

Care

• Hand wash only, in cold water with a mild detergent
• Do not rub or wring. Press the water through softly
• Lay flat to dry, away from direct sun and heat
• Wash the slip separately
• Do not iron the velvet. Heat flattens it. Use a steamer held a little away, or hang it in a steamy bathroom
• Do not tumble dry
• Do not dry clean
• Put jewellery on after the cape, and mind long nails and bag chains, as the chiffon can catch
• Store on a padded hanger in a breathable garment bag
