Designer, TV presenter, podcast host, and interiors expert Sophie Robinson has an eye for style and colours. She is your go-to guru for all things interior decoration. Stepping into Sophie’s beautiful and well-decorated home, it is apparent that dull and drab are not in Sophie’s vocabulary. With her background and deep understanding of the transformational power of colour, Sophie will liberate us from all things beige or boring.

Three words to describe Sophie!

Colourful, flamboyant and generous.

Your life motto is?

Be kind and follow your heart.

Tell us about your work

I’m passionate about interiors, creativity, and colour and get to explore all of this through the many hats I wear. I’m an interior designer but not in the traditional sense. I’m more interested in helping and inspiring other people to decorate their homes to suit their own style. I do this through my online design school, workshops, tv shows, the podcast, and of course Instagram.

Where did your love colour and print come from? Have you always been as confident using both?

Aged seven I was given carte blanche by my parents to decorate my bedroom. I chose a rainbow theme complete with a rainbow paper border, curtains, and a matching duvet set. The transformation was spellbinding for me an addiction to room makeovers was set. I think as children we are free with colour, unafraid to take risks and something happens as we get older that stops us. I was lucky that I got to experiment at a young age and it gave me confidence because I could feel the joy that colour brings to a space.

What is currently inspiring you?

Ru Paul's drag race. I love the creativity of the hair, makeup, and the fabulous over-the-top outfits.

What are you most looking forward to this Christmas?

Seeing the house transformed with glitter, tinsel, twinkling lights, love, and laughter.

Who would be around the table at your dream Christmas dinner party?

My podcast co-host Kate Watson Smyth for conversation, Skye McAlpine for the food, Lizzo for the tunes, Ru Paul for the shade, and Britney for the stories.

What is the first step we should all take in creating a home we can love and can feel proud of?

Before you pick up a paint chart or order a new sofa, stop and do some inquiry into what your personal style and love of colour are. It’s essential to have a vision for your room, or indeed your whole house. This vision is what helps keep you on track and provides the best and most exciting results.

What should we expect when we sign up for one of your online courses?

I think a lot of people get super excited about redecorating their homes and then daunted, overwhelmed, and before the fear kicks in. This is when ‘safe’ decisions are made like opting for off-white paint or a grey sofa that you can later perk up with a couple of cushions. I’m here to hold your hand every step of the way to make sure you fulfill your heart's desire and end up with a home as interesting, vibrant, and individual as you are.
